| GCW Gandhi Nagar emerges winner | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Nov 2 Government Women College Gandhi Nagar emerged as winner by bagging first and second positions in an inter-college debate competition organized by the Department of Students welfare, University of Jammu. From Govt Women College Gandhi Nagar Vandana Sharma and Indu Bagal earned first and second positions while Navjot Singh from Govt College of Engineering and IT bagged the third prize. The topic of the today’s debate was “Is cooperative movement effective alternative for empowerment of rural India?” Vandana Sharma, Indu Baga both from Gandhi Nagar College, Jyoti Sharma from Govt. Women College Udhampur and Vinay from Dept of sociology will participate in the National –Inter- University debating contest to be organized by the National Council for Cooperative Training New Delhi. The function was presided over by the chairman campus cultural committee Prof. NR Sharma. Expressing their views for the motion the students said those now days the scope and meaning of the cooperative societies have under gone a radical change. The policy planner in India have realized that if the cultivators are to be rescued from the onslaught of Industrial development, the peasants have to be assisted financially to increase their production and make India self sufficient. Dean student Welfare, Dr. PS Pathania in his address said that the India is more of a rural society and comprises of more villages than the urban area. The competition was adjudged by the panel of judges, Prof. RL Bhat, Prof. RD Sharma and AK Goswami. The programme was compeered by Sakshi Gupta
