| Antony’s statement vindicates party’s demand: PDP | | | Early Times Reporter SRINAGAR | Nov 2 Stating that the latest statement of Union Defence Minister, A K Antony strengthens the hope of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) the press advisory committee of the party while hailing the statement has said that such confidence building measures would not only create an optimistic atmosphere for peace and mutual reconciliation but generates an atmosphere of confidence among the masses. Earlier the committee held a meeting here, which was presided by Party President Ms Mehbooba Mufti. The meeting was attended by all the members besides party general secretary and MLC Nizam-u-Din Bhat, MLC Basharat Bukhari, and party political secretary Peerzada Mansoor Hussain who in a joint statement said that the Defense Minister's announcement to vacate all the civilian properties under use of the security forces by November 30 is beginning of measures with wider inferences. Press advisory committee has further added that shortest and the most effective way to curb human rights violations is troop reduction and strengthening the institutional authority. The committee said that the vacation of civilian properties would commence institutional empowerment process, which the PDP has been advocating for quite some time. The committee also observed that the recent statement by General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 15 Corps, A. S Shekon in which he has said that army is a disciplined force and there is no place for such people in the force who don't care about human rights, vindicates that every concerned agency is taking PDP's concern seriously which is in the larger interests of public. The elements who are averse to troop reduction and are striving hard to create doubts on intentions of union government vis-à-vis troop reduction and resolution of the vexed issue have been sidelined by the public and the commitment of the union government vis-à-vis resolution of Kashmir issue is sufficient guarantee that such measures would compound only. |
