Illegal Bangladeshis; Need to evolve foolproof mechanism

Bangladeshis, who try to exfiltrate to Pakistan from Jammu and Kashmir, have virtually become a headache for security forces manning the border and intelligence agencies alike with police playing a prank with them by just detaining the Bangladeshis for a while and then making them board the train at Jammu without adopting any proper procedure for their deportation.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police fail to sense the magnitude of the problem of Bangladeshi infiltrators despite repeated intelligence inputs claiming that Bangladesh and the Bangla nationals have become a threat to Indian nation.
Well informed sources revealed that BSF guarding the borders has a tough time to tackle these poor Bangladeshis, who easily enter the state to cross over to Pakistan.
A BSF officer said, "Despite presence of different security and intelligence agencies in the state, they manage to reach borders in Jammu region and attempt to exfiltrate into Pakistan." He said, "They first reach Kolkotta from Bangladesh and then to Jammu via Delhi only to be sighted at borders of Jammu."
"Sometimes they get killed while trying to flee despite warnings of the BSF jawan but then we have to guard the borders from any misadventure, even if it happens at our end," he added.
Hundreds of illegal immigrants from under-developed Bangladesh illegally enter India and then try to cross into Pakistan. Sources said, most of them in search of a better livelihood either land up in police custody or get killed by BSF at the borders.
"Centre and state governments have so far failed to prevent these Bangladeshis from entering into India," the BSF officer said. Police sources said, these Bangladeshis get trapped by touts, who after charging some money bring them up to safer zones near forward posts of the BSF and then disappear.
In the recent past several arrested Bangladeshis confessed that after illegally entering into India they reach Kolkotta, from where they reach Jammu via Delhi . Expressing concern the BSF officer said, "BSF alone can not end this illegal trade of human trafficking. To get rid of the menace state police besides different security and intelligence agencies will have to work together".
He, however, added as a precautionary measure BSF jawans carry out day patrols for at least three to four times along the international border checking fencing to see any breach. He said, "Facing famine, unemployment and crippled economy in their country, they hope that once they reach Pakistan they would also be able to reach Gulf countries."
"They risk their lives for better livelihood," he added.
He said, "Even if they fail to reach Pakistan , these Bangladeshis know that they would fetch a job in Jammu and that is why they put themselves into serious risk." "A foolproof mechanism has to be evolved by the centre to curb the illegal trade," he added.
Sources divulged that a racket of touts operating in the country was responsible for alluring Bangladeshis into this illegal trade of human trafficking. Touts charge Rs 2000 to Rs 4000 per Bangladeshi promising them to deport them to Pakistan, said sources.
Sources, however, hastened to rule out the possibilities of such touts in Jammu .
Sources further divulged that in Nizamuddin and Bangla Badi in New Delhi these touts convert Bangladeshi currency into Indian currency and arrange Pak currency for the illegal immigrants aspiring to cross over to Pakistan . Police sources said, after BSF hands over arrested Bangladeshis to local police, the latter sends them back on train and buses with a warning but no proper escort. Most of the Bangladeshis board off the train at next stop and intermingle with the local populace.
A senior police officer said, "State police can not keep them in police lock ups for long. We don't have the infrastructure for such illegal immigrants. They become a liability so we give them a warning and send them back on trains and buses.
