| Babu Singh lays stress on sports activities making youth healthy, mentally fit | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Nov 3 Minister of State for Youth Services and Sports, Mr. Babu Singh today said that government is endeavoring a lot to promote sports activities in the state at village level. The Minister was addressing a mammoth gathering in Kalakote block of Rajouri district yesterday during a sports mela organized by the District Youth Services and Sports Department, Rajouri. The indigenous games popularly known rural games were organized on the instructions of MLA Mr. Ashok Sharma aimed at to promote these at village level. This sports mela was held on the completion of two years by the Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad in the state. While divulging upon the importance of the sports, the Minister said that such events provide an opportunity to create congenial atmosphere for promotion of communal harmony and brotherhood. He said youth should be prepared to compete not only at state or national level but also at international level. He said the government is contemplating to make a strategy for providing indoor and outdoor stadiums in the state for promotion of sports. He said that as many as 1126 posts of physical teachers were advertised by the state and State Service Selection Board against which 993 qualified youth appeared in the test. He said the list has been published for candidates to file objection if any and would be released soon. The Minister said that appointment of 2500 new trained youth under Rehbar-e-Khel programme is under consideration of the government in order to cover the left over educational institutions. Referring to the demand of sports stadium at Kalakote, he directed Tehsildar to take the matter with Minerals Departments to handover a piece of land presently under their occupation so that the funds are made available for construction of a modern sports stadium. Babu Singh lauded Mr. Ashok Sharma for arranging such sports melas at block level. District Youth Services and Sports Officer S. Narinder Singh presented vote of thanks and gave a resume of their activities. He said that over 300 students drawn from 15 high and higher secondary schools of the block are taking part in kabaddi, kho-kho, wrestling and tug of war. He said that final sports mela would be held at district headquarter where students of all eight blocks of the district will participate in competitions. He presented a memento to the Minister on behalf of the department. |
