Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front leader Mohammad Yasin Malik's safar-e-Azadi (the journey for freedom) might have drawn big crowds in rural Kashmir but is all set to be a controversial affair in Jammu region.
Even though to be on the safer side, the JKLF has named its campaign for Jammu region as "Peace in South Asia, Kashmir First, Kashmir First", but the organizations like BJP, Shiv Sena and VHP are strongly opposed to this separatist campaign in the region. When contacted by EARLY TIMES a cross section of leaders and activists from different organizations vehemently opposed to campaign which is to begin from Doda district.
Meanwhile, the local unit of the BJP has already written to the DGP to ban the Jammu version of Safr-e-Azadi as they warned of violence if allowed to go ahead.
In a letter to the DGP today the Shiv Sena has said, "in a bid to avert such clashes, and stop the promotion of secessionism in Jammu region, this campaign against unity and sovereignty of India is required to be stopped and promoters of this campaign are required to be dealt under law. Yasin Malik, who already has proven anti national credentials, is also required to be detained for initiating such campaigns, and be barred from entering the peaceful and nationalistic Jammu province".
The breakaway Shiv Sena faction, now named as Kranti Dal led by Anan Sharma, has decided to stage black flag demonstrations against Mohammad Yasin Malik when his caravan reaches Jammu from Doda. Anan Sharma said "Jammu is not the place for Kashmiri separatists to open their shop of anti India activities."
Malik's campaign in Jammu region is beginning by November 5 from Doda district. Malik who left Srinagar alongwith a group of his supporters in a bus for Doda today believes that his long march for peace in Kashmir could motivate the Government for accelerating the pace of bilateral dialogue.Malik supports trilateral talks on the plea that involvement of representatives of the people of the state could help India and Pakistan to find out a solution to the Kashmir issue which could be acceptable to both New Delhi,Islamabad and to the people of the state.
