| 6 dead in militancy | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Nov 3 Six persons, including two Hizbul Mujahideen militants and a girl, were killed in separate incidents in Jammu and Kashmir, police said today. Based on specific information about presence of militants, security forces launched a search operation at Nihal-Pattan village on Srinagar-Baramulla highway last night. When the militants fired on the troops, the security men retaliated and in the ensuing gun battle, the two militants were killed, they said. A search was conducted in the morning and body of a girl was also recovered from the spot. Earlier reports had said that three militants were killed in the incident. The slain militants have been identified as Abdul Rashid Ganai alias Hamza and Ashiq Hussain Bhat. The girl has been identified as Nusrat alias Shahnaz, daughter of Ghulam Mohiuddin Mir of Nihal village.Two pistols with four magazines and 15 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the slain militants. Meanwhile, two Hizbul Mujahideen militants and two overground workers of the same outfit were arrested by security personnel in Anantnag and Bandipora districts. The militants - Mehraj-ud-din Khanday and Zahoor Ahmad Khanday - were arrested during vehicle checking at Mattan in Anantnag and two hand grenades were recovered from them, a police spokesman said. Two OGWs, Aijaz Ahmed Parrey and Abdul Majid Lohar, were apprehended in an operation by security personnel in Hajan area of Bandipora district yesterday, a defence spokesman said. |
