| J-K Tourism hold a series of festivals in J&K from tomorrow | | |
Srinagar, Aug 21 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir government will hold a series of festivals from tomorrow, in an effort to review tourism in the valley and other parts, after the recent militant attacks on visitors.
Addressing a press conference here the Director Tourism Farooq Ahmad Shah announced a series of festivals to be held at Ladakh and Kashmir regions to promote tourism and preserve the traditions and cultural heritage of the regions.
Mr Shah said that a five day festival from August 22 to 24 would be held at Kargil and August 29 to 30 at Zanaskar to attract more tourists.
During the festival, the groups will present glimpses of folk dance, songs, besides sports like horsepolo, archery and photo exhibition depicting ancient and modern Kargil.
It is for the first time that Kargil comes in the focus of Kashmir Tourism Department.
Mr Shah said ''Kashmir festival'' will be organised from October 29 in which cultural programs, photo exhibitions of modern and ancient Kashmir and Kashmir food festivals will be organised.
Besides this the tourism department is organising ''Gulmarg Festival'' for four days from September 4, Golf Championship in Srinagar, Pahalgam and Gulmarg from September 9, and water sports Mela at Mansbal from September 4, he said.
