Declaring that security forces were in control of the situation after containing militancy in Jammu and Kashmir, Governor Lt General (Retd) S K Sinha said the state government was also doing well for the development of the state.
Speaking at a function in central Kashmir, he said faster economic development and welfare of the people was imperative for heralding lasting peace in the state that had undergone a traumatic phase of militancy for the last 18 years.
He complimented the Civil Administration, Army, police and paramilitary forces besides the people of the state for bringing about a change in the situation.
Referring to the militancy in Kashmir, the Governor said the inherent spirit of religious harmony and great Sufi heritage known as 'Kashmiriyat' held key to peace in the valley.
This, he said, had been a useful weapon to fight elements against peace and added let the philosophy of Kashmiriyat transcend the borders and spread peace and lone in the whole world.
General Sinha said Kashmir's glorious pluralistic heritage had withstood the test of times and the people have kept aloft the flag of amity and brotherhood against odds.
He said his head bows in this holy township where Sufi Saint Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Noorani, known as Nund Reshi, spread the message of peace, love and brotherhood.
