Claiming that credibility of coalition government has been at the lowest ebb, the National Conference leader former Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather has blamed the alliance of ruthlessly demolishing rules and norms of governance established over the years. Addressing a public rally at Nagam Chadoora today Rather said that hazy functioning of the ruling alliance has brought its credibility to the lowest ebb, adding, "Norms and rules which were established over the years for the smooth functioning of government have been ruthlessly demolished by the present regime." He said "under coalition rule there has been no taker of law of the land. In fact law of jungle prevails in this state." The NC leader said, "A free for all situation prevails in the state and sorry state of development has been an indicator to this. Development either has come to a grinding halt or has been showing a declining trend despite the fact that Centre continues to pump huge funds in Jammu and Kashmir."
Rather said, "Minister after minister from New Delhi has been criticizing the coalition government for its dismal performance in every sphere. Despite Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad's rhetoric against corruption, it has become order of the day."
"Ministers of the ruling alliance have been looking for their personal interests instead of public sufferings", even some of the senior officials in the state administration openly demand plum posts on behest of the 'ministers'." he added.
"Not only this, ministers now refuse to work if they don't get portfolios of their choice. The poor scenario has disappointed people of the state. If corruption has spread its tentacles in state administration then the menace in public life has also become a cause of grave concern," Rather added.
Asking the coalition government to rise to the occasion and take effective measures to end corruption, he said, "Government has to seriously weed out corruption from public life. Mere slogans would not reverse the trend."
"Today corruption has touched new heights and coalition government has not taken any concrete steps to crush it with iron hands," he said.
He further said that youth of the state were utterly frustrated due to rising unemployment and corruption which is touching to new heights. "The frustration if not neutralized by providing them job avenues and wiping out corruption may cast serious ramifications on the state," the former Finance Minister said.
He said, "National Conference is working on a document to tackle the unemployment and menace of corruption," adding that if coalition partners continue to remain at loggerheads and the government continues to remain defunct then it would be disastrous for the state.
"Conflict within the coalition has paralysed the administration. The conflicting statements of coalition partners on every other issue have rusted the state administration," he said.
Referring to PDP patron Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, Rather said, "Mufti Muhammad Sayeed and his daughter Mehbooba publicly said that Congress-led coalition government has brought miseries to the people and their (PDP's) leader Muzaffar Hussain Beig said in his recent address at Shangas that PDP will not continue in the coalition if government does not deliver to the people which contradict the Mufti's statement."
"Another ally of the coalition government also lashed out at the government functioning, and the MLA of CPI (M) from Kulgam Mohammed Yousuf Taragami has also condemned the government for its poor performance," he added.
"Taragami had also said that coalition has only aggravated the miseries of the common people and it seems that coalition partners are remotely concerned about the welfare of the people," Rather said. "The coalition partners are only interested in saving the coalition for their survival. In fact from day one they have been more interested in saving their government at he cost of people," he said, adding "They have no interest and time to look into the problems of people."
