Air-Vice Marshal felicitated

Akhil Bhartiya Rachnathmak Samaj today felicitated Air Vice Marshal Anil Chopra, with Mahatma Gandhi Seva Medal, 75 years old rare photographs of Mahatma Gandhi, shawl and book for rendering invaluable and dutiful service to the humanity, in a simple but impressive ceremony at Airforce Station Satwari. The recipients of this medal include prominent dignitaries like former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.
Earlier, the members of the samaj alongwith large number of children form schools and colleges and prominent citizens gathered at Diwan-i-Aam in Mubarak Mandi where after paying flora tributes to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi proceeded to Airforce Station at Satwari.
ABRS chairman S P Verma said that this yatra is being taken out on 4th November every year for the last 17 years. He recalled that in 1990 when militancy was at peak first sadbhawna yatra was taken out in the state from Mubarak Mandi to Lal Chowk led by him, in which he carried the torch of the message of peace as preached by the Father of Nation. He said that it is matter of great pride that the birth anniversary of Gandhiji is being celebrated through out the world as Non-Violence day. The samaj had organized rallies. Debates, symposium to mark the 2nd October celebrations for pilfering the message of Gandhiji to these school, colleges and university of the state. A big function was organized at Mubarak Mandi attended by a galaxy of VIPs and huge number of children which highlights the growing importance of the teaching of Gandhiji amongs the people.
Speaking on the occasion, AVM Anil Chopra recalled that when last year he came to J&K he felt most privileged to serve in one of the most beautiful regions of the world where land rises from lush green plains to the highest mountain of the world. “I have flown in every part of the state and having seen most of the world, this is the real jannat,’ he added.
He said that from the time of independence road connectivity in the state have improved considerably due to the efforts of state and central government and hard work of Border Road Organization, thereby rapidly improving the quality of infrastructure and life and the day is not far when peace will ultimately prevail. “I have great love and appreciation for simple beautiful and peace-loving people of J&K and Indian Airforce is here to support them,” he said.
