| Neighboring mess put J&K in somber mood | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Nov 4 The imposition of emergency in Pakistan while on the one hand has put the mainstream political spectrum in Jammu and Kashmir in a somber mood at the same time the ugly development has taken the separatists aback who were already demoralized over a weak paced dialogue due internal developments in the neighbouring country. 'This is an unfortunate development. It means the peace process between India and Pakistan would now be relegated to the backburner. Kashmir cannot remain any priority for Pakistan in such a situation,' said Abdul Rahim Rather, a National Conference legislator and the leader of the opposition in assembly. The PDP patron and former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed said "I am optimistic about the return of democracy in Pakistan and hope that it will be as swift as has been the imposition of emergency". Maintaining that President Parvez Musharraf's presence has helped in improving relations between India and Pakistan, Sayeed said that Pakistan President's initiatives helped in transforming the relationship between the two countries. "Peace process is moving forward and Musharraf has been playing a vital role by ensuring continuation of ceasefire along the borders and by taking politically and publicly bold initiatives," he said and added that Musharraf has ensured that history of Jammu and Kashmir vis-à-vis relationships between the two neighbors is redrafted in an atmosphere of amity and peace. Condemning the imposition of emergency in Pakistan, Huriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who is presently in New Delhi said that all developments in Pakistan have a direct bearing on Kashmiris and emergency in Pakistan is neither good for Pakistanis or for people of Kashmir. "Political or any other development in Pakistan is definitely casts their affect on Kashmir as well. So emergency there will too have its effect on Kashmir," he said, adding that this will bring people in Pakistan and the army there on confrontation with one another. CPI (M) state secretary Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami also condemned the development in Pakistan, by terming it as "very very bad", which will have direct on Kashmir issue. Another senior NC leader and former minister, Ali Mohammad Sagar termed the present situation in Pakistan as "very unfortunate". "It is the big setback to the India-Pakistan peace process, which was already deadlocked since past six months," he said. Adding that whenever efforts are on right direction in getting Kashmir issue resolved something happens. "This will push the Kashmir issue and Indo-Pak talks to back-burner". JKLF termed the move in Pakistan as anti-people act. "By imposing emergency, Pakistan president wants to curb the freedom of people of his country", he said vice president, Bashir Ahmad Bhat, adding that it is a setback to Kashmir cause and will have direct bearing on Kashmir. |
