| Forces on alert as waiting ultras may flock in | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Nov 4 Concerned over the sorry state of affairs in the neighboring country, the forces on the Line of Control have been put in a state of alert to ward off any 'accidental' skirmish on the frontiers. "We are confident of maintenance of the prevailing ceasefire on the Line of Control as emergency government too has reiterated its resolve to crush the terrorism but accidental skirmish can not be ruled out when a responsible dispensation is not in place", said a top security forces while commenting as why there should increased vigil on the frontiers. There is another potential reason for enhancing the watch in the Line of Control in view disturbance in Pakistan. There are reports that over 4000 militants are waiting to cross over the Line of Control from their launching pads and in view of emergency in Pakistan which taking on the elements of violence the same may intrude into the Indian side. The officials stated that "we shall have to watch the situation closely because the possibility of the level of ingress getting higher with some groups of militants trying to sneak into Jammu and Kashmir to ward off arrest and elimination by the Pakistani troops." They said during since the border routes were still passable those uder threat of elimination across the border may try to sneak into Jammu and Kashmir and "we shall have to be vigilant to prevent fleeing militants from entering into this state." The Army authorities do not foresee any major impact on the militancy related violence on the ground that the establishment in Islamabad may not favour total check on infiltration of militants into Jammu and Kashmir which could give respite to the Indian troops. Already the Pakistan Government is engaged in handling militancy and political and security turmoil in Afghanistan and in the North Western Frontier and as such it may not allow India to take any advantage from zero level infiltration into Jammu and Kashmir. In the context of this development the troops have been directed to carry out round the clock patrolling of the LOC so that not a single should was able to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir. This instruction has been given because the intelligence inputs have revealed that between 4000 and 5000 militants had, prior to the promulgation emergeny in Pakistan, been brought on the launching pads across Kupwara, Uri,Gulmarg, Poonch and Rajouri for being pushed into Jammu and Kashmir. "We have to be on the guard because the weather conditions will permit infiltration for another 30 to 40 days," official sources said. |
