| Jehad Merchandise Co. busted on NH | | Three held with Rs 50 lakhs hawala terror fund | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Nov 4 Pakistan may be collapsing with crunch but there is no dearth of money when it comes to funding the jehad and activities of terror in Jammu and Kashmir. The Jammu and Kashmir Police have caught hold of yet another prized catch with the busting of huge hawala funnel when Rs 50 lakhs were being taken to Kashmir in a gas cylinder. An elder in his 60s and a young woman along with a child have been arrested from the National Highway while they were on their way to Srinagar carrying one of the biggest currency consignment of recent times for the separatists. It is learnt that the consignment has originated from a source in Saudi Arabia. "The conduits are being questioned and further arrests are likely on knowing as whom this money was meant for", said a senior Police officer here. According to IGP Jammu, Dr SP Vaid, Three Kashmiris, including a woman and a non resident driver, were arrested by the police during the early hours of Sunday near Udhampur, on Jammu-Srinagar national highway,65 kms north of Jammu, on charge of carrying several lakhs of rupees for Kashmiri separatists. Vaid said that a 60-year old Jameel Khan,a woman 32-year old Shamima belonging to Srinagar and a 12-year old boy,Umar Khan,were travelling from Delhi to Srinagar.They had left Lajpat Nagar in Delhi two days back in a car which was driven by Danish Anwar belonging to Uttar Pradesh. Dr Vaid said that when they reached Jikhani Nallah near Udhampur they were injured in a road accident. They stayed for the night in a house of a Hindu after getting first aid. They hired another taxi for reaching Srinagar. The taxi driver became suspicious when he began loading one cooking gas cylinder. He found the cylinder heavy and wanted to confirm whether it carried gas. One being told that it did not have gas he became suspicious because the cylinder was weighing heavy. He refused to drive the injured people to Srinagar. The IG said that later a Tata Sumo taxi was hired. However, the driver who had refused to carry them to Srinagar informed the police. The taxi was intercepted at a checkpost on the highway. The police recovered Rs.47 lakhs, concealed in the cylinder, Rs.2.5 lakhs from the purse of Shamima and Rs.25,000 from Jameel. After being arrested the four were lodged in the police station at Udhampur where during the interrogation they confessed that they had received the money through Hawala and was to be delivered to one G.M.Bhat associated with the Hurriyat Conference. The police claimed that the trio had been instrumental in carrying huge sums of money, received through Hawala from a source in Saudi Arabia, several occasions in the past and the amount had been delivered to Kashmiri separatist leaders. |
