| Lal Singh meets district officers | | | Early Times Reporter KATHUA | NOV 5 To sort out ways to mitigate the suffering of public, a meeting of district officers and public was held here at Conference Hall of District Development Commissioner Office, Kathua here today. Member Parliament Doda-Udhampur Parliamentary Constituency, Ch. Lal Singh presided. Additional District Development Commissioner, Kathua Anal Kumar Gupta, Chief Planning Officer, Sant Ram, Assistant Commissioner Development Shayam Bijyal, Programme officer, ICDS, S. Durdarshan Singh, District Social Welfare Officer, Kathua, Executive Engineers of PHE, Irrigation and PDD, councilors Sarpanches and people, members of advisory groups were present in the meeting. The Sarpanchs of Barwal, Sahar Logate, Kharote, Thein and many other areas of the district apprised the district administration about various problems of their areas particularly the names included in the BPL lists. All the panchs and Sarpanchs voiced for inclusion of more names of disserving people in BPL lists with the consultation of gram sabhas. They also apprised district administration about other problems of the areas. MP Ch. Lal Singh while speaking on the occasion expressed his displeasure over the BPL lists. He said that deserving persons should be included in BPL lists instead of influential persons and while making BPL lists gram sabhas should be consulted. He said that various centrally as well as state sponsored schemes have been launched for the upliftment of weaker sections of the society like BPL, IAY, SGSY, widow/old age pension, National benefit schemes and many others being implemented by RDD, ICDS and social welfare departments but the benefit of the schemes is not percolating to deserving people due to wrong attitude of some government functionaries. He asked the BDO’s and concerned officers to include named of deserving people in BPL lists with the consultation of gram sabhas. The main point is welfare of the people and for this purpose progress of the area and for this MP’s, MLA’s and government functionaries should work together. |
