| Budget session on Jan 7 | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Nov 5 Following the precedence of last year, the budget session of state legislature this year too is all set to begin in first week of January. Though a final calendar is yet to be drawn after constitution of the business advisory committee but it is learnt that the session is most likely to begin on January 7, 2008 with the address of the Governor to the joint sitting of the legislature. The annual budget for the year 2007-08 is most likely to be presented on January 10. "The tentative date for the beginning of the session is January but the Chief Minister is soon convening a meeting to discuss the schedule", said Tariq Hamid Qarra, the Minister for Finance, Planning, Development, Law and Parliamentary Affairs. The Jammu and Kashmir government, it may be mentioned here, had become unique in the country by advancing the budget session to January earlier this year. The presentation of budget in January, however, does not make the state to have system of January-December fiscal year instead of April-through-March. The budget is advanced with a view to make the funds available with the executing agencies to take up works immediately after the snow melts and weather soothes in the high cold climatic areas. |
