| NSF demands reservation for Sikhs | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Nov 6 National Sikh Front today took out a rally in demand of ten percent reservation for Sikh community throughout the country. Hundreds of people belonging to Sikh community took part in car/scooter rally which began from Daljeet Chowk R.S Pura and culminated at Press Club. Addressing the participants, the Chairman of National Sikh Front S. Virenderjit Singh said that both central and state governments are doing injustice with the Sikh community on account of ten percent reservation in the educational institutions and other government criterion. "The central government and some state governments have given reservation to the biggest minority that makes 22% of total population and ignored the Sikh community that is only 2% of overall population," he said He further said that the members of Sikh community have never shied away from sacrificing their lives for the cause of nation but instead of encouragement, every sort of discrimination is being done to them. Stressing upon the government for reservation of community in employment and education, he said that if their demands are not conceded immediately, they would be compelled to take measures other than peaceful. Others who spoke on the occasion included S Kulwant, Singh Bhatti, Sardarni Harbans Kour, and S. Kuldeep Singh Khokhar. |
