| City wears festive look on Deepawali eve | | | Vikas Sharma Jammu | Nov 6 Jammu, the city of temples, presents a festive look prior to the Deepawali, the festival of lights, which is being celebrated with religious fervor and gaiety across the country on Kartik Amavasi falling on November 9 this year. The bazaars present a festive look and the people have been actively involved in purchasing new household gadgets and other luxurious items as according to the belief it is said that the items purchased on this day are auspicious. The shopkeepers across the Jammu city have put banners offering special Diwali concessions to the customers. The festival which is celebrated 20 days after Vijay Dashmi, popularly known as ‘Dusshera’ symbolizes the return of Lord Rama to Ayodha after completing 14 years of ‘Vanvas’ and killing the demon Ravana. It is also said that on this day the next Avatar ‘ Ganesha’ defeated the demon Naraksura. Deepawali is also known as symbol of knowledge and purity. On this day, every house is being illuminated and tastefully adorned to welcome the ‘Goddess Laxmi’ For traders it is a considered a good and auspicious day for opening new accounts and entering into new ventures. Hectic preparations are afoot to put up stalls at Parade Ground here for sale of fire crackers, the very craze of the youngsters. The traders dealing with the sale of crackers are making hefty business on this day and the interested parties are reportedly paying huge amount for getting space for installation of their stalls. Sources said that till date 45 stalls have been raised in the Parade ground, including four whole sole sellers and the rest by the retailers which another thirty five such stalls on in progress. |
