| From "Tu Tu—Main Main" to "Aap aur Hum" | | Speculations over new Congress—PDP bonhomie | | Early Times Special Correspondent Jammu | Nov 7 From "Tu Tu—Main Main" going on between the Congress and the PDP for quite past sometime, the two swapping charges and making allegations and counter allegations against each other—the former Chief Minister and PDP patron describing Azad government as total failure and non functional, while the incumbent Chief Minister and Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad ridiculing the hollow slogans raised by the PDP only to befool the people, the fresh bonhomie between the leaders of the two party has come as a surprise to the political observers, who have started indulging in guess games over this sudden change in the utterances of the two leaders. On the opening of Durbar move offices in Jammu, Monday November 5, addressing the media persons Ghulam Nabi Azad listed achievements of the coalition government during five years, including the three years of Mufti led coalition rule. He showered praises on Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and appreciated the conduct of the government under his stewardship during first three years of the coalition rule. Reciprocating the conciliatory gesture of Azad, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed the very next day, addressing a PDP rally at the border town of R S Pura remarked that Congress-PDP coalition has scripted a new history of ushering in peace and tranquility in the state. Appreciating the conduct of the coalition government, including two years of Azad led rule in the state, Mufti stated that since the formation of coalition government a serene silence is being witnessed along the international border and line of control. "A new era of peace and prosperity has dawn upon the state especially in the areas close to LoC and IB because of our efforts and the help of sincere Congress leadership" Mufti added. Mufti Sayeed attributed his success to the futurist support extended to him by the Congress leadership. He further said that Congress-PDP has been the first coalition arrangement which has fulfilled the promises made in the CMP. "Whatever PDP achieved during first three years of the coalition government would not have been possible without the support of Congress. The credit of all major policy initiatives goes to both the coalition partners and neither one can take credit exclusively for the same". This is in sharp contrast to Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's assertions that all the good work done and ground cleared for reconciliation within the state and defusing the scenario of uncertainty and tensions as well as initiating of friendly relations with Pakistan, achieved during the three years of PDP led coalition rule, are being undone by the Azad government. The PDP President Mehbooba Mufti had also charged Ghulam Nabi Azad of being a biggest hurdle in the way of carrying on the PDP agenda of building bridges with the alienated Kashmiris and bringing them back to the mainstream. This change of attitudes between the leaders of the two parties has given rise to wide speculations. It is generally believed that during his recent visit to New Delhi Azad who was given every assurance by the Central High Command of the party and the central government of full support and free hand to him in handling the affairs in his state, he was at the same time advised to keep the PDP in good humour and at least give an impression of accommodating their concerns. Similarly the center has reassured Mufti Sayeed of their no plan to ditch or undermine the relevance and importance of PDP in the state politics. This counseling by the central leadership of the ruling dispensation has given rise to the change of attitudes of the main leaders of the two parties, from path of confrontation to reconciliation and rapprochement. |
