In keeping with their character and tradition to support and endorse every action of any government in Pakistan, whether it is army dictatorship or elected government, the government in Pak Occupied Kashmir has extended its support to the clamping of emergency in Pakistan including PoK. Stating that President Parvez Musharraf had been pushed to the wall to take this extreme step by the forces averse to development and thriving democratic process in the country, the PoK cabinet has fully endorsed the views express and reasons given by Parvez Musharraf to impose virtual martial law in his country.
The Cabinet expressed these views at an informal meeting which was held here on Sunday to discuss the situation obtaining in Pakistan with Prime Minister Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan in the chair.
"Some elements were bent upon sabotaging the sincere efforts of the President of Pakistan for nation conciliation and promotion of democracy to pave way for imposition of material law, but, nevertheless, president merely imposed a state of emergency, keeping all democratic institutions such as Senate, National Assembly and provincial assemblies intact," the cabinet observed, according to a handout.
The cabinet was of the view that the step had been taken in the larger national interest in view of the extremely critical situation in the country. Some elements had brought the situation to a point which could not be handled without this extreme step, it said.
The cabinet also appreciated the steps taken by Gen Musharraf for peaceful settlement of Kashmir issue. It also expressed solidarity with the armed forces of Pakistan while appreciating their endeavours for internal security and peace and defence of the country and condemned efforts aimed at pushing the president and defence forces to the wall.
