Halwaies booked for selling adulterated sweets

The Public Analyst, Public Health Laboratory, Jammu has tested 22 samples of Khoya as well as Sweets received from Food Inspectors, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Municipal Committee Arnia and block Katra during a period of one week. The samples were lifted on the instructions of Secretary to Government, Health and Medical Education Department in view of Diwali festival. Out of 22 samples tested, 9 are of Khoya and 13 are of other sweets. Six samples of Khoya, one sample of Burfi and one of Ladoo have been found adulterated.
The Prosecuting authorities (Local Health Authorities) have been directed by the Secretary to prosecute the defaulters and action is being initiated under Prevention of Food Adulteration Act.
Assistant Drug Controller (HQ), Drugs and Food Control Organization, Jammu has asked the general public to intimate the Local Health Authorities i.e. Block Medical Officers/ Health Officers as well as Dy. Drug Controller for any complaint in respect of sweet or halwaies.
