| Employ 80 pc locals: Tarigami to industry | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Nov 7 Calling upon resident and non-resident industrial houses running factories in Jammu and Kashmir and enjoying the benefits of incentives to give 80% employment to the locals, CPI (M) State Secretary and MLA Kulgam Mr. M. Y. Tarigami said that it was the moral and legal duty of these industrial houses to adhere to the conditions laid for local employment in the memorandum of understanding(MOU). Tarigami was addressing a mammoth public gathering at Reasi today in which workers of Railway project also participated. Others who spoke on the occasion include working president Central of Indian Trade Union (CITU) Mr. Javid Zargar, General Secretary CITU Mr. K. K. Bakshi and other senior leaders of CITU Mr. Om Prakash Sharma, Mr. Sham Prasad Kesar and Mr. Mushtaq Ahmad. Tarigami said “Railway Ministry has made commitment to absorb local skilled and un-skilled youths in projects as such they should full fill this commitment in letter and spirit”. He said there is no doubt that some local youths are working in the project but the maximum workers are from outside the state. He said ‘we are not opposed to outsiders, but if our own skilled and un-skilled youths are available what is the fun to get the service from outsiders’. He said the industrial units should absorb maximum un-employed youths in lieu of the incentives being provided to them by the government. He said that reportedly most of the industrial units were not adhering to the condition of employing to locals which is not a healthy sign, he added. Tarigami said he has been informed that those locals workers working in railway projects are not getting due wages, overtime and other allowances admissible under the rules. He appealed the railway authorities to provide the due monetary benefits to the workers at the earliest. Referring to acquisition of land for the Railway project, Mr. Tarigami advocated compensation to the land owners as per the market rate and rent to those owners whose land is being used temporarily by the Railway Authorities. Commenting on the present scenario in neighboring country Pakistan, Mr. Tarigami expressed great concern over the prevailing situation there and said these developments would badly affect the Indo-Pak peace process. He hoped that the two country would take the peace process to its logical end. |
