| Dr. Abdullah favours talks with HM Chief in third country | | | Jammu, August 21 : Favoring resumption of talks with the top leadership of Hizbul Mujahideen in a foreign land, Patron of the National Conference and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Dr Farooq Abdullah has said that HM leadership should be invited for talks in a third country other than India and Pakistan to resolve the issue of Kashmir. Earlier, Government of India had engaged HM leadership in talks in August 2000 but the same remained inconclusive. In an exclusive interview to a local media, Dr Abdullah favoured talks with Hizbul Chief Syed Salahuddin in foriegn land to resolve the issue of Kashmir. He also emphasized the need to maintain utmost secrecy during these talks till the time substantive breakthrough was achieved. Recounting his past experiences of August 3,2000 when representatives of HizbulMujahideen held parleys with senior officials of Home Ministry in Nehru Guest house in Srinagar, Dr Abdullah said,"we should learn from the past mistakes and keep this sensitive issue a low key affair till some results were achieved".
He said ,"progress should be made on working groups constituted by Prime Minister Man Mohan Singh for early settlement of the Kashmir issue " Commenting on the plausible solution towards resolution of Kashmir issue, Dr Abdullah said "restoration of Internal Autonomy is the only solution".
In an apparent reference to Peoples Demoratic party and their slogan of 'self-rule', he said some people are raising slogans aimed at creating confusion among the masses". He said,"NC has already brought out a written document on 'Autonomy' .We are open to debate it and listen to other proposals. If there is a better solution available, we will like to study that as well",he added. He also denied news reports suspecting rift between him and his son,NC President Omar Abdullah.He also advised his son to spend some more time with local masses inorder to understand their problems.He said, it is important for a mass leader to remain approachable to masses.On the question of tackling problem of unemployment,infrastructure development Dr Abddullah said congress chief Minister was trying his best adding that state has suffered on many counts during 17 years of turmoil and efforts should be made to reach out to masses and address their grievances. He also advocated the need to strengthen the Righ to Information act in the state of Jammu and Kashmir and termed it as important tool in the hands of the masses.He said public should have the right to know what their leaders and bureaucrats were doing for bettering their lifestyle. |
