Two hardcore militants of Pakistan-based Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) outfit today surrendered along with arms and ammunition before police in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The duo, identified as Mohammad Sharif alias Sharka and Mohammad Mushtaq, surrendered before Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Rajouri-Poonch range, P R Manhas at Budhal in Rajouri district yesterday, police said here today. The militants also handed over two AK-56 rifles, three magazines, one wireless set, four hand grenades and two mobile phones to the police authorities. They have been active in militancy for last several years in border areas of Rajouri and Poonch district, police said. They surrendered after their parents and some elderly people of their villages persuaded them to shun the path of militancy, police said, adding preliminary questioning of the duo revealed that militants were strengthening their bases in Pir Panjal ranges of Rajouri and Poonch and were providing training to local youths.
