Observing November 6 as Jammu "Martyrs Day" by secessionists aimed at creating communal hatred

Jammu | Nov 8
Adding insult to injury and pouring salt into the wounds of Dogras and Hindus of Jammu, who have been subjected to all sorts of injustices and blatant neglect at the hands of Kashmiri politicians as well as Kashmir centric central leaders, the secessionists and communally motivated Islamic fundamentalist in Indian part of Kashmir as well as in PoK and Pakistan observed November 6, what they describe as Jammu Martyrs Day, to commemorate the memory of some Muslims killed in Jammu on November 6 1947, in the wake of communal riots in which many Hindus were also killed.

Distorting the facts of history and giving the events of 1947 their own twist, the secessionists and religious fundamentalists having communal mindset, with a motive to create communal hatred and put the Dogras and Hindus of Jammu in a poor shape some organizations in Kashmir and PoK and parts of Pakistan have held functions to pay tributes to only the Muslims killed on November 6 1947, conveniently forgetting the killings of several thousands of Hindus by the Pakistani raiders in the name of Islamic Jehad, in Mirpur, Kotli. Bhimber and parts of Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu division as well as in Muzaffarabad in Kashmir division, where the Pak aggressors, in the name of Jehad, let loose a rein of terror and indulged in indiscriminate killings of innocent Hindus, looting and burning their properties as well as plundering the honour of the women folk. The parts of Jammu and Kashmir which were captured and illegally occupied by the aggressors were cleansed of all non Muslims.

Lakhs of refugees from Pak occupied parts of the state had found shelter in Jammu city and other safer places, where earlier Hindu, Sikh refugees from parts of Punjab which became parts of Pakistan had also found shelter. As a reaction to the atrocities committed by the religious fanatics in Pakistan as well as in Pak occupied parts of J&K and the harrowing tales of their sufferings related by these refugees as well as to foil the well organized plan of the leaders of Muslim League and Muslin Conference to forcibly annex Jammu and Kashmir to Pakistan, some people were misled and were influenced by the communal propaganda, which included both Hindus and Muslims. This led to eruption of communal riots in Jammu in which Hindus, Sikhs and Muslims became victims. However with the coming of the Indian forces in J&K after the state exceeded to India, the pro Pakistani elements were demoralized and started migrating to PoK or Pakistan. In this confusion and fluid situation some Muslims got killed.

However, both Hindus and Muslims of Jammu have long left behind the memory of those dark days when human beings had turned into beasts and indulged in wanton killings of each other. As a means to repent over their folly and succumbing to the beastly instincts for a short time, the people of Jammu belonging to all communities have since resolved to maintain perfect communal amity and brotherhood. During these last 60 years Jammu has displayed utmost communal tolerance, living as one people, upholding the golden tradition of communal understanding and brotherhood.

By scratching the old wounds and giving exaggerated account of the killings of members of a particular community only, these communally motivated elements are bent upon creating communal divide and hatred, with a view to disturb the perfect communal harmony prevailing in Jammu region. Giving the exaggerated figure of over one lakh Muslims massacred on November 6 1947, these Kashmiri secessionists and religious fanatics have attributed this heinous act to the Hindu chauvinists of Jammu, supported by Dogra forces and Maharaja Hari Singh. The fact remains that about a fortnight before this day, an interim emergency government headed by Sheikh Abdullah was formed in the state, who was supervising all the affairs, while Maharaja Hari Singh as well as Dogra forces had hardly any role to play.
