Showing an iron fist for those associated with militant related activities, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today categorically denied any person with militant background for performing Hajj under government quota. However, at the same time Azad offered a relief for militant families by saying that "a father can not be held responsible for the crime committed by his son".
The statement came from the horse's mouth during the inauguration of a muti crore state-of-art Hajj complex at Bemina here today, where holy pilgrims will be offered multiple Hajj related facilities under one roof.
Azad stated that verification of around 250 persons intending to go for Haj are still pending with CID and that he has directed concerned inspector general (IG) CID, K. Rajindra be flexible with those applicants who has no involvement with the militancy. "Father can not be held responsible for the crime committed by his son, said CM, adding that all the applicants having no involvement with militancy related activities will be able to perform the Hajj this year.
Cautiously pointing towards the separatist leadership, Azad lambasted the pro-freedom leaders by alleging that they have and are befooling people through hollow and emotional slogans, which he said are meant for their personal interests.
"They (separatist leaders) are only successful in leading to bloodshed and miseries of people. Why don't they take cue from the situation occurring tin our neighboring country? We, in India should be proud of the fact that we are living in a best democratic system of government in the world," he said.
Praising his double and triple shifts directive, the chief minister said those criticizing him on the issue must realize that Hajj house was completed in a record time of 14 months.
"Despite difficult climatic conditions, our engineers and workers worked hard and completed their assignment on time," he said adding that he himself visited the sight 26 times in two years to make sure that deadline should be meted. He further maintained that more than 90 percent of the developmental works are under construction in the double and triple shifts and hoped that up to March next year all these works would be completed.
The chief minister announced that two mega hospitals would be constructed in the valley- One at Bemina and another near airport- so that better healthcare facility is provided to the people.
Union water resources minister Saif-u-Din Soz, while speaking on the occasion said that the Hajj house was a long demand of the people in the state. It would resolve various problems being facing by the Hajj pilgrims, coming from far flung areas of the state. Now the Hajj pilgrims would complete all the immigration and customs duties within the Hajj house and they would reach the airport within minutes," he said.
Soz said that time is not far when international flights will take off from Srinagar airport to Gulf and Central Asian republics. "Talks with the civil aviation ministry are going on and I am confident that the international flights will start taking off from here next year," he said.
He said that congress led united progressive allies (UPA) at the centre is serious in bringing peace and prosperity in the state and it is the collective responsibility of the all the political leaders to work jointly for the betterment of the people.
Today's inaugural function of the Hajj house, besides creating much fanfare in valley, was successful in bringing all the big-wigs of major political parties of the state under one common plate form. Besides CM, National conference (NC) patron Dr Farooq Abdullah, NC president Omar Abdullah, PDP senior leader, Abdul Aziz Zargar, finance minister, Tariq Hamid Qarra, Hajj and auqaf minister, Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed, roads and building minister, Gulchain Singh Charak, consumer affairs minister, Taj Mohiudin, and senior officers of civil administration and police shared the dice with apparent charisma and amity.
In his traditional style of praising people, the former chief minister Dr Farooq Abdullah waste no opportunity to butter chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad for completing the Hajj house in a record period of 14 months. "This was my dream to construct a Hajj house in the state, but Azad sahib has at least fulfilled my dream," he said adding "this is an achievement of the government and we must appreciate the government for this wonderful work".
