Upgradation of ISM on priority: Mangat

Paying rich tributes to Lord Dhanwantri, the originator of Ayurveda, Minister for Health and Medical Education Pt. Mangat Ram Sharma has said that upgradation of Indian System of Medicine in the state is on priority of the government. He said engagement of about 400 new ISM doctors under National Rural Health Mission, construction of drug testing laboratory and pharmacy complex at Jammu and upgradation of Ayurvedic Hospital in Jammu are some steps taken by the government so far in this behalf.
Speaking at a function organized by Medical officers of Indian System of Medicine in honour of Lord Dhanwantri ji here today, the Minister said Ayurveda has played a major role in serving the suffering humanity from the time immemorial and this system has still lot of relevance in our day to day life.
Lauding the efforts of ISM doctors in providing medical care to people living in remote and hilly areas of the state, Mr. Sharma said that they should continue their efforts in serving the ailing people with missionary spirit. He called for ISM doctor fraternity to come forward and focus their attention in conducting more researches in Ayuvedic system so that people are benefit at large.
The Minister emphasized the need to adopt alternative system of medicines like Ayurveda which is not only ancient and indigenous system but cures the person completely without any side effects.
Recalling the growing immense of ISM in the western world, Mr. Sharma said due to the excessive use of chemicals causing lot of side effects in the medicines the western countries are shifting to Ayurveda. He informed that the demand of experts in this field has grown manifold in other countries and more stresses being given for cultivating medicinal plants and using Ayurveda cures.
Responding the demands of the doctors and other paramedical staff of the department, the Minister said that all their genuine demands would be examined and mitigated at the earliest.
Member Parliament Mr. Madan Lal Sharma, Minister of State for Industries and Commerce Dr. Ramesh Chander and Director ISM Dr. Abdul Kabir Dar also attended the function and threw light on the benefits of Ayurvedic medicines to mankind. They stressed the need that this system of treatment should be upgraded in all areas of the state.
A galaxy of doctors of Jammu province besides prominent citizens attended the function.
Earlier, the function started with lightening of traditional lamp by the Minister and garlanding the portrait of Lord Dhanwantri.
