| Poor infrastructure forces BCCI shift U-19 matches from Jammu | | | Early Times Reporter JAMMU | Nov 10 The North Zone fixture committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has shifted four of the five matches of the under-19 group from Jammu and Kashmir to Punjab and Delhi after the chairman of grounds and pitches committee filed a negative report with regard to the MA Stadium, the venue for the matches. During his recent visit to the state, Daljeet Singh of Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) found the MA Stadium wicket unprepared for the four-day games, thus recommended in his report to the fixture committee of the BCCI to shift the matches. “It is true that the chairman of the grounds and pitches committee of the BCCI, Daljeet Singh has termed the MA Stadium pitch as ill prepared for the under-19 competitions, which are considered as an important tournament by the Board,” general secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), Salim Khan told SAN. He informed that two matches have been shifted to Patiala in Punjab and other two to Delhi. However, the BCCI has asked JKCA to hold the fifth and last match between J&K and Uttar Pradesh at GGM Science College hostel ground from December 14 to December 17. It may be recalled that last year the BCCI had shifted the Ranji Trophy matches, scheduled for MA Stadium, on similar grounds. “What happened is due to the lack of expertise with the JKCA to guide the pitch preparations, so the Association should give a serious thought to the issue otherwise there are chances that BCCI may black list the Jammu venues for the first class matches in future,” pleading anonymity a senior cricketer told SAN. It is pertinent to mention here that the BCCI grounds and pitches committee chairman, Daljeet Singh had in an interaction with SAN during his last visit to the state in September had said, “a lot needs to be done at MA Stadium as for as the wicket and outfield is concerned.” But, unfortunately, the JKCA turned deaf ear to the warnings of the technical man from the BCCI. |
