Sources said that one of the hold up militants tried to escape from the hotel building under the cover of heavy fire. However, troops shot him dead just outside the building, they added.
Sources revealed that the lone surviving militant was now holding up in a store room on the ground floor and was still firing intermediately with his assault rifle.
One CRPF jawan was killed at the initial stage of the encounter, while for SOG personnel were also injured when they tried to sneak inside the building on Friday evening.
Reports reaching here revealed that soon after one of the militant was shot dead, a large number of people assembled in the area and started pelting stones on the troops. However, they were chased away by the police.
The encounter began on Thursday when militants fired at a paramilitary base and later took shelter in a hotel building in Sopore, a town 50 kilometers (30 miles) north of Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu-Kashmir state.
Troops cordoned off the hotel immediately and evacuated all the civilians from the building and its surroundings. Sources said that the army and CRPF, which was jointly conducting the operation, was not using heavy Mortar shells to avoid damage to the hotel building.
