| Great expectations ends up in Doc-attendant clashes; | | A social issue not an individual issue: Experts | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Nov 10 Though Doctor’s strike is not unusual in Jammu but the recent Recent strike of the resident doctors in AIIMS over the reported manhandling of two junior doctors once again has draw the curtain out of the state virtually making people and doctors to ponder over the issue. Really the Doctor –attendant scuffles are these days becoming more frequent these days every where but all this end u in mess in Hospitals and the crippled healthcare making more health hazards to the patients- all courtesy frail government policies of PG selection. Expert psychologists believe that lack of communication skills and much needed exposure to handle emotional vibes of attendants by the junior doctors on duty often result in a cashes these days. ‘You just sit a while and think over what sparks the doc-attendant clashes and perhaps over 80% will agree to get a single reply to this query: - the higher expectations from either side. Expert however don’t want to give the benefit of the doubt to the ‘human in white aprons’ as all the time they are not right but being a human at critical times they too seemed helpless even treating a minor ailment, a consultant psychologist added. Many Jammuites felt since the emergence of the turmoil in the Jammu region the expectations of the people from the medicos have raised much high within this some simply accused the politicians to add fuel to the fire and making things from bad to worse. Talking to Early Time, Rajinder Sharma who himself is a Gazatted officer simply said, “ Agreed that the GMC Jammu and other hospitals in state are over crowded but who is to be blamed the – the politicians only as the transfers of the doctors always have been a good trade for the concerned – no doctors is willing in serving n rural areas. “Their claims of no basic infrastructure in peripheral locations turns to be lame excuse why a person hailing from Mendher/ Paddar/ or another remote area can’t stay despite having his/her residential place in their home town, he questioned. ‘Ironically those who even have sought the entrance in the medical profession of the caste/religion/ economic basis don’t want to serve their people in their localities, he added. Referring to the clashes and the outcome suspension of medicare, he stressed that doctors on duty should understand the mental and emotional stress on an attendant of a patient admitted in hospital. “Instead of snubbing him/her away he/she must adopt a human approach and putting them at the place visitor they need to speak out only then the things will be resolved, he added. While Ajay Verma a senior executive in media section flayed the government for not having a rationalized transfer policy and said that those have easy access in the higher and influential circles either have enjoyed stagnation or managed to be in the education (the non transferable job). “Finally all this created a mess in in the health sector while many health centrers are being managed single handily by a pharmacists only the privileged, influential medicos are enjoying their postings at evening clinics where no one prefers to go and have barely reduced to white elephants,’ he said. Even the transfers lists as were appeared in the media section exemplary show the favouritism some have never been lobed in urban limits while other lucky ones always shuttle from GOvt Sarwal Hospital to Gandhinagar or vice versa while some even has managed their mentors to shuttle them only between GMC Jammu and CD Hospital Jammu in their service tenure. However a PG Student in GMC Jammu countered it saying people enter in this institute that every thing be alright at the hands of the medicos but we too have some limitations.’ “We are human beings just like the attendant of a patients but are not the magicians/ saintly personality who cure miraculously in Hindi movies/plays, he added. When contacted Dr Jagdish Thappa consultant physiatrist, told that this problem is two way you can’t give benefit of doubt to medicos or the side being allegedly victimized. Infact the lack of communication skills of a doctor often become troubleshooter for him/her.’ “Truly speaking when a patient is admitted in hospital even in the most critical health status, the relatives feel now every thing will be all right at the same time treating doctor must update the attendants about the status of the patient time to time to avoid such ugly incident, Dr Thappa said. “Despite hectic duty schedule, the doctors who work diligently and tirelessly should understand the importance of the polite behaviour. Indeed the politeness and gentle behaviour are the two vital weapon that would be a doctor should have in his/her arsonal, he observed. ‘Great expectations from the treating doctor too lands up in vocative confrontation at times while the strong emotional bond between the patient and attendant but a rude behavior from the doctor concludes in scuffles thus the future medicos should behave like a psychologist so as to tame the bullying attendants, he pointed out. Academic doesn’t make individual a good doctor but his /her behaviour turn them a good doctor, Dr Thappa suggested a paper for ‘counseling psychology’ for during the entrance to get got lot of doctors
