The Jeddah bound second batch of Hajj pilgrims today had anxious moments when they watched an Indian Airbus A300 landing at the Srinagar airport this morning with burning tyres.
Official sources said that the Airbus had come to airlift the second batch of Hajj pilgrims to Jeddah but as soon as it touched the runway its tyres caught fire.
Sources said, the airbus with only crew on board arrived at the Srinagar Airport from Delhi this morning to airlift about 220 Hajj pilgrims from here to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.
Sources said, watching the airbus from passengers' lounge the pilgrims had nervous moments as they had to board the same aircraft for Jeddah.
Sources quoting eyewitness said that when the aircraft was in the landing mode, its tyres suddenly caught fire, adding the pilot, however, managed to land the airbus safely and a disaster was avoided. Later the tyres were replaced.
Sources said that the Jeddah-bound flight carrying the Hajj pilgrims would be delayed by few hours after a sort of crash landing.
