| Youth are PDP's biggest strength: Mufti | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Nov 22 In the run-up to its State-level youth convention at Jammu, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has started mobilizing the party's Youth Wing. In this connection, a meeting of the Executive Committee of the PDP Youth Wing was convened here today to take stock of the preparations for the convention. The meeting was presided over by the party Patron, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. Speaking on the occasion, Sayeed asked the Executive Committee members to fully activate its cadres and take the policies and programs of the party to the grassroots level as the State's youth, comprising a major chunk of the population, would have to play a crucial role in shaping up a politically emancipated and economically vibrant future for Jammu & Kashmir. He said the State's youth have great expectations with the PDP as the party has represented their just concerns and aspirations in a dignified manner. "The youth are our party's great strength," he said and added that the party would safeguard their interests at whatever level. Sayeed said the party is formulating a broad policy for the all-round welfare of the State's youth that would be made a part of its Self-Rule document. He said more than decade long turmoil has not only made the State's youth to suffer immensely but has also deprived them of the fruits of globalization and economic liberalization sweeping the region. He said the time has come when the youth of Jammu & Kashmir must also become the beneficiaries of the region's fast expanding economy. Sayeed said the youth of Jammu & Kashmir could be brought out of the mentality of siege by allowing them to freely connect to the outside world through knowledge and trade. "History of the sub-continent makes it imperative for both India and Pakistan not only to resolve their mutual conflicts but also forge a healthy cooperation towards achieving the desired levels of human development," he said and added that in its ultimate form of the liberalization of borders, PDP envisions a bus ticket to serve as a passport and visa to travel into any part of the erstwhile State and beyond. "To this liberty to travel freely in the region, is linked the economic future of the State in a significant measure," he said. Earlier, the Executive Members while highlighting the concerns of the youth called for their greater involvement in the party's decision-making processes to formulate futuristic policies for the party. PDP Youth Wing President Basharat Bukhari, General Secretary Farooq Jan and other members were present on the occasion. Earlier, the meeting while condemning the killing of a party worker Ghulam Mohammad Wani and expressed sympathies with the bereaved family.
