| Police shielding army officer | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Nov 22 Police is shielding an army officer and trying to hush up the case relating to the death of a youth some days back by the vehicle driven by the officer in Gadigarh area. According to reports on 19 November, a youth identified as Bhushan Lal son of Bihari Lal resident of Banote, RS Pura was hit by a army vehicle at Gadigarh bridge in which he died on the spot. Sources said the deceased was on his way from Jammu to RS Pura when he was hit by the speedy army vehicle. The deceased was working in a medical shop and was the lone bread earner for his family. Eye witnesses said that the vehicle was being driven by an officer in civil dress while the driver was sitting in the adjacent seat. They further said that the army officer was learning driving when the accident took place and soon after he shifted his seat to put blame on the driver. Police after receiving information rushed to spot where some people told them that the accident took place when the man in civil dress was learning driving. The victim was rushed to the hospital where doctors pronounced him as brought dead. Instead of registering a case against the army officer reportedly responsible for killing of the youth, the police cooked up a theory that the deceased fell himself under the vehicle resulting into his death. Following protests by the family members and the locals, the police registered a case and took up the investigation. According to knowledgable sources the police in its report has maintained that the youth died of his own when he himself came under the vehicle. The report further revealed that the vehicle was being driven by the driver himself and not by the army officer, as is being alleged by the people. The family members allege that police is deliberately trying to hush up the case to save the army officer and despite lapse of three days it has failed to arrest the accused driver. When contacted Gadigarh police said that a case has been registered in this regard and investigations taken up. |
