| Seven arrested for possessing fake currency | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar |Nov 23 Police today claimed to have arrested seven persons for possessing fake currency and recovered counterfeit notes from their possession in Chogal area of Handwara in north Kashmir. Official sources quoting SP Handwara, Dr. Haseeb Mughal, told News Agency of Kashmir that on specific information about organized group dealing and circulating fake currency in the area of Chogal Handwara, a Police party was deputed to monitor their activities in Kulangam Chogal. He said that the deputed Police party arrested two suspicious persons near Kulangam Chowk who were later identified as Abdul Ahad Bhat son of Abdul Gani Bhat of Vilgam Handwara and Abdul Ahad Malik son of Ali Muhammad Malik resident of Trehgam Kupwara. During personnel search of apprehended persons Rs 1500 fake currency were recovered and during questioning they revealed that they were circulating fake currency with other group members in Handwara, Kupwara and Sopore. SP Handwara further stated that on their disclosure five persons Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Malla son of Ab Rehman Malla of Seeloo Sopore, Abdul Rashid Lone son of Mukhta Lone of Thaga Gund, Anayatullah Bhat son of Abdul Gani Bhat of Tarzoo Sopore, Abdul Majid Magray son of Gani Magray of Keigam Kupwara and Muhammad Ashraf Lone son of Ghulam Muhammad Lone of Zaloora Sopore were subsequently arrested in a series of raids and on their personal search rupees 8500 in fake currency were recovered. Besides one Million EURO note and rupees 60000 in original Indian currency which was meant for exchanging and three Mobile phones were recovered from the accused persons, he added. He said that in this connection a case FIR No. 263/2007 U/S 489-A, 420 RPC was registered in Police Station Handwara and investigation taken up. |
