Jammu, Aug.21: Prof. Amitabh Mattoo, Vice Chancellor, (JU) and chairperson, J&K State Chapter of Society for Promotion of Indian Classical music and Culture amongst Youth (SPICMACAY) expressed great sense of grief and sorrow on the sad demise of Bharat Ratna, Ustad Bismillah Khan, Shehnai Maestro. In the condolence meeting Professor described Khan as a gentle genius who single handedly brought shehnai to center of Indian Classical music. He had the distinction of performing on India’s first Republic day ceremony, was the third Classical Musician after Pt. Ravi Shanker and M. Subbalaxmito be awarded Bharat Ratna , the highest civilian honour in India , was recipient of Sangeet Natak Akademy Award, the Tansen award and padma Vibhushan 2Mattoo reminisced over Ustad’s Visit to the University during Sept. 2005, when under SPICMACAY scheme two programmes were arranged at Jammu and Srinagar.His demise is a great loss to the nation and ICM, Mattoo said. Among others Dr. P.S Pathania, Vice- Chairperson, SPICMAY, J&K State Chapter, Prof. N.R Sharma, President JU Chapter, Dr. Shoaib Inayat Malik, Asstt. Dean (OW)< Vijay Atre Asstt.
