| Jugal inaugurates Daseen-Sail Kouri Bair road | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Nov 23 Minister for Rural Development Mr. Jugal Kishsore Sharma today inaugurated a 7-km road from Dassan-Sail Kouri Bair at Majalta construction with an estimated cost of Rs. 1.35 crore under PMGSY. Addressing the public gathering the Minister said that government is committed to provide accessibility to all the far-flung and remote areas of the state. Replying to the local demand of extending Dassan-Sail Kouri Bair up to Uccha Pind, the Minister asked the concerned officers to prepare an estimate plan so that work on the said road can be started at the earliest. He called upon the officers to visit the rural areas for addressing the grievances of the people and assessing the implementation of developmental schemes on ground. Informing that PMGSY scheme was launched in Jammu and Kashmir in 2001, Mr. Jugal said that all the uncovered hamlets of the state with population of 1000 people will be connected by road network up to 2009 under this scheme. He said that inspite of the uneven and hilly topography of the state, apart from limited working season in major parts of the state, the government is striving hard to complete the projects within targeted time frame. Appreciating the historic decisions of Coalition government led by Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, the Minister said that the efforts are on to accelerate the development process by equitable distribution of resources and implementation of Wazir Commission recommendations. He said that for infrastructural development in the villages an additional Rs.3.12 lakh have been granted to the panchayats. This amount will be spent exclusively on augmentation of water supply schemes, sanitation and electricity. The Minister also visited model village Neeli and took stock of the ongoing development works. He was apprised that 65 percent funds have been spent out of the Rs.1.20 crore allotted for construction of infrastructural facilities in the village. The Minister said that all the model villages will be completed by March, 2008 thereby facilitating a large chunk of population living in villages. He said that government has implemented several rural development schemes for the benefit of the poor especially those living in far-flung and backward areas. Mr. Jugal also inaugurated a godown for storage of food grains at Majalta constructed at a cost of Rs. 9.25 lakh. Among others District Development Commissioner Udhampur, Mr. O. P. Kalanderia, Director Rural Development Mr. Manoj Dwivedi, ADDC Mr. Khursheed Ahmad Bhat and all the senior officers of various departments were also present. |
