Jammu | Nov 24: Recovering from their poor show in first innings, Jharkhand today strengthen their position with opening wicket partnership yielding 107 runs thereby bringing the side in a commanding position with score on board reading 278 for seven at the end second day play in the Ranji Trophy Plate Group-B match underway at GGM Science College Hostel ground, here today.
Jharkhand seem to be in a comfortable position with 250 runs overall lead against Jammu and Kashmir with three wickets intact.
Earlier, the host pacers, who were thinking of early wickets this morning, had a nightmarish experience after openers Subroto Ghosh and Manish Vardhan made a confident start sparing little chance for the bowlers to build up pressure.
Skipper Vijay Sharma, who finished with five for 20 in 11 overs in the first innings yesterday, was hit hard by the openers. Vijay gave away 49 runs in the seven overs he bowled today. However, the spinners who remained high and dry in the first innings, were instrumental in giving the hosts first breakthrough in shape of Subroto Ghosh. It was Sameer Khajuria, who got Subroto Ghosh caught through Arshad Bhat at 43.
The fall of first wicket provided J&K bowlers an opportunity to show their presence felt and then afterwards they managed wickets on regular intervals. Manish Tiwari, who resumed innings with one run in his account, made highest 79 runs studded with 11 boundries.
When the stumps were drawn, Jharkhand were playing at 278 for seven in 90 overs. Sourabh Tiwari was at the crease with 64 runs off 128 balls, 8x4, while Shiv Shanker Rao had yet to open his account.
