| Farooq questions motive behind setting up WGs | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Nov 24 Former Chief Minister and patron of National Conference, Dr Farooq Abdullah has now raised his voice to know motives behind setting up five different Working Groups by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to resolve Kashmir issue. Dr Abdullah, it is learnt, is also not happy with the way recommendations of the four Working Groups were dumped after holding series of meetings. The WGs were constituted after Prime Minister attended historic round table conference in Kashmir. Commenting on the status of Working Groups and implementation of the recommendations of these groups Dr Abdullah said, “after creating all the hype over setting of these working groups it seems New Delhi has lost track. I do not understand with what motive these working groups were constituted and if the Centre was not serious towards implementing their recommendations as well”. He said, of five groups, four groups have already submitted their set of recommendations to be implemented in letter and spirit to address variety of issues concerning state populace. It is shameful none of the recommendations were implemented as yet and people in remote areas in the state are feeling alienated, Dr Abdullah said questioning the motive behind setting up of these groups. Making another significant observation Dr Abdullah said the most important of all the working groups on Centre-State relations is still meeting and it is not clear how many more meetings will take place before it also submits its recommendations. He said, reams of paper have been wasted by the ‘babus’ in preparing bulky reports and set of recommendations but it seems these are of no use. In the absence of political will these recommendations carry no weight, he added. |
