Mangat, Jugal declare Jhiri Mela open
Thousands throng to mela to pay homage to Bawa Jitto

Minister for Health and Medical Education Mangat Ram Sharma and Minister for Rural Development Jugal Kishore Sharma today declared week long Jhiri Mela open at Jhiri 20 kms away from here.
The mela is being held every year in memory of a saint Bawa Jitto and his daughter Bua Kauri who sacrificed their lives for the cause of justice to the poor and downtrodden people. Thousands of devotees within and outside the state participated in the mela. In the mela various departments have kept their stalls for the convenience of the devotees besides elaborate arrangements have been made for the facilitation of devotees. The mela would last till 29th of this month
Speaking on the occasion, Sharma said that the great saint has left a strong message of hard-work and honesty for coming generations adding that Bawa Jitto Ji laid his life for seeking justice. He said that Jitto Ji who as a tenant was involved in Agriculture practices by virtue of his hard work made his land-lord to grow greedy for the increase in agriculture produce.
Managt Ram said that mela site spread over 961 kanals of land would be developed as a pilgrimage site and all basic facilities would be created there.
Sharma said that great saints have always advocated for amity, brotherhood and harmony adding that we have to follow their teachings. He said that truth must be the essence of any political philosophy and politicians should follow sincere and truthful convictions. He said that the politicians while in power speak one language while out of power they have a different mode of talking.
Speaking on the occasion, Jugal Kishore said that Baba Jitto teachings have a very good relevance to our day-to-day life adding that this should be an inspiration for all of us and especially to farming community to which Jitto Ji belong. He said that measures would be taken for development of Jhiri and adjacent areas to make it a tourist destination and creating necessary infrastructure.
After paying obeisance of Bawa Jitto in his temple, both the Ministers took round of stalls established by various departments for the convenience of the devotees and appreciated the efforts of these departments for making elaborate arrangements for the devotees visiting the mela and lauded their coordination amongst themselves.
