There is a need of "grand reconciliation" in restoring peace in the sub continent advocated by Jammu University Vice Chancellor Prof Amitabh Mattoo while speaking on a topic "Peace Process: Agenda for Future" during an interaction programme organized by Action Committee for Return of Migrants here today.
More than 100 participants, including senior citizens, scholars, intellectuals, writers and political scientists from Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh participated. Besides Prof Matto, the significant figures present in the function were VC Islamic University of Science and Technology Awantipora Prof. Sidique Wahid and VC Kashmir University Prof Abdul Wahid Qurashi. Chairman of Kashmir Times Publications Ved Bhasin presided over the function.
"There is a need of reconciliation at every level, for which I use a term grand reconciliation. And this is a holistic transformation of whole state," he said.
Further defining his grand reconciliation term, Matto presented three point formula, which according to him, would help in bringing peace and prosperity for both India and Pakistan and in the state. "There are three types of reconciliations which are mandatory for restoring peace. Reconstruction between Kashmiri Muslims and Kashmiri Pandits, reconstruction within the state – between people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh and reconciliation during the talks between India and Pakistan," said Mattoo, adding that if these three reconstructions are successful, peace will return in state and in subcontinent.
Speaking on the occasion, President Action Committee for Return of Migrants Jitinder Bakshi said that the return of migrants is not possible without earning the goodwill of the majority community of valley. "We reject the proposals of the government to bring back migrants here in various clusters. It is the Muslims of the valley who can invite and bring the migrants back here, so that they can emotionally intermingle with their brothers and sisters as before 1989," he said.
Action Committee for Return of Migrants is a non-political, non-governmental organization, but a social organization connected with the welfare of the common man.
In his presidential address Ved Bhasin said that permanent reconciliation is not possible without just democratic solution and added that this even is not possible without providing proper space to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
