| Sabharwal takes baton of 15 Corps | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Nov 24 Lieutenant General Mukesh Sabharwal today took over as the General Officer in Commanding of the Srinagar-based Army command, 15 Corps, responsible for protecting the Line of Control and tackling militancy in the Kashmir valley. Sabharwal replaced Lieutenant General Amarjit Singh Sekhon at a ceremony at Badami Bagh cantonment here. Sekhon has been posted as Director General Military Operations, (DGMO) at New Delhi. With Assembly elections due next year in the state, Sabharwal has his task cut out as militants are expected to try to sabotage the poll process. He will also have to deal with the repeated infiltration bids from across the LoC even as those who managed to sneak in this summer would try to intensify their activities in order to make their presence felt. More than 140 militants were killed this year alone while they were trying to infiltrate into the valley from across the LoC. |
