Chandpreet Kour has retained the women’s singles title beating her junior Shzar in a neck of neck contest 3-2 in the State Table Tennis Championship underway at Indoor Complex of M A Stadium, here today.
Though far junior to Chandpreet, Shzar played an equally good game and brought the match to an interesting stage to be decided in the fifth set. Her attitude of not to give up stretched the decider to 12-10 but in favour of Chandpreet. The score: 11-8, 9-11, 11-9, 9-11, 12-10.
However, she compensated her loss winning the sub-junior girls final trouncing Lavanya Sharma 3-1. The score: 9-11, 11-5, 11-7, 11-4.
The cadet boys title went to Niham of Srinagar who defeated Alankrit Mahajan 11-2, 11-4, 11-5. In the junior boys category, Suchait Mattoo and Jayesh have reached the final to be played tomorrow.
In the meantime, the entry of Arjun Kohli and district champion, Dheeraj Arora there seems to be an interesting contest in men’s singles final tomorrow.
Promising Arjun took the revenge of losing in the quarterfinals of district championship to Anil Dutta beating latter in straight sets in the men’s semi-finals today. With a lot of exposure of playing outside the state, it is going to be an interesting final tomorrow when Arjun will take on an equally good Chandigarh lad, Dheeraj Arora. According to the organizers the final shall be played at 5 pm tomorrow, followed by the prize distribution function.
