| J&K in trouble against Jharkhand | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Nov 25 Jammu and Kashmir seem to be in trouble in the wake of their loss of four wickets for just 85 runs on way to chase a big score of 375 runs with a day’s play remaining tomorrow in the Ranji Trophy Plate Group-B match underway at GGM Science College Hostel ground, here today. In fact, the second innings play of Jharkhand revolved around the batting of Sourav Tiwari. He not only mastermind the big target with his brilliant knock of 169 runs off 279 deliveries studded with two sixes and 21 boundaries but was also instrumental in 97 runs last wicket partnership with Sujit Roy (4). Sourav, who resumed his innings from overnight score of 64, completed his century in style pulling Samiullah Beigh for a six. Most of the runs scored today, especially with last batsman, Sujit Roy, came through singles and doubles with Sourav keeping the strike with him most of the time. Shiv Shankar Rao lost his wicket making only one run while Kuldeep Sharma contributed four runs. Sujit Roy, who faced 40 balls, remained unbeaten on 4. In reply to a big target, J&K started their innings on a bad note with young Ian Dev Singh losing his wicket on duck. Caught by Manish Vardhan off Shiv Shankar Rao, Ian was soon followed by Javed Ahmed (5) on way to the pavilion becoming second victim of medium pacer Rao. However, Arshad Bhatt and Kavaljeet Singh eased the pressure and brought the hosts out of the troubled waters. But their stay on the wicket was cut short by Sujit Roy, who caught Arshad leg before on 43 (off 70 balls, 7x4). The 51-run partnership between these two batsmen had brighten the hopes of chasing the target, but after early exist of star batsmen the dream of making it a second consecutive win against Jharkhand has almost become impossible. After Kavaljeet and Arshad went to the pavilion, the pressure started mounting on J&K, but Majid and Sarabjeet Singh played sensibly and saved their wickets for tomorrow. When umpires called it a day, Majid was playing at six while Sarabjeet was yet to open his account.
