Early Times Reporter Jammu | Nov 26: Chandigarh boy Dheeraj Arora, who serves with RBI Jammu, today emerged as new state table tennis champion beating defending champion, Arjun Kohli in the final played at Indoor Complex of MA Stadium, here today. Playing his consecutive third men’s final, it was not an easy win for Dheeraj this time. In fact, Arjun Kohli, who had lost in the quarterfinals of district championship, was not in a mood to give up easily. Arjun first forced Dheeraj to concede the third set 9-11 and then stretched the fifth set to 16-14 thereby providing joyful moments to the crowd at the jam-packed table tennis hall this evening. The score: 11-3, 11-5, 9-11, 11-5, 16-14. The junior boys title went to Jayesh Singh, who trounced Suchait Mattoo 3-1 in the final. The score: 11-8, 11-8, 4-11, 11-5. In the final and prize distribution function, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Anil Goswami was chief guest, who gave away winners and runners-up trophies. He was accompanied by Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Sudanshu Pandey, who was guest of honour. Prominent among others present were Secretary, J&K State Sports Council, Ravinder Gupta, Joint Secretary of the Council, Siddharth Sharma and other officials of Sports Council and J&K Table Tennis Association. |
