| Rana advocates cause of Christians | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Nov 26 Devender Singh Rana, Member Legislative Council, has urged the state government to sympathetically look towards the Christian community of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Addressing a deputation of J&K Christian Dalit Association of District Jammu Rural headed by Rakesh Mattoo, Rana said that the Christian community in J&K has not got its due share and is neglected, downtrodden and needs immediate attention and care of the government. He demanded that the contract system in the Municipalities should be abolished and the Christian employees should be absorbed in the Municipalities on permanent basis. Rana said the government should sympathetically consider the demands of the Christian community living in the city and the rural areas, so that they become a part of the holistic society and get the benefits due to them without any bias or favour. He urged the government that all the Christian graveyards in the rural areas should be provided with boundary walls and sheds and proportionate quota should be provided to the Christians in the government jobs and other government institutions. Rana expressed dismay over the fact that many members of Christian community have been absorbed on adhoc basis for years together and they have not been regularized. He urged the government to make a special provision for equitable economic development of the Christian community across the state for their social and economic upliftment. He said the National Conference is committed to the all-round development of all the people of the state of Jammu and Kashmir and will continue to struggle for the upliftment of those who have been neglected by the present state government. |
