A deputation of Forum of lease Holders/Occupants of Nazool/govt. Lands (FONL) led by its Chairman Inderjeet Khajuria, President S.S. Pathania and General Secretary Gajan Singh, today called on the Minister for Health and Medical Education, Mangat Ram Sharma, to know about the development and progress with regard to revision of rates, which have been slapped by issuing the demand notices to various occupants of Nazool land and other government lands in Jammu City by the Assistant Commissioner Nazool, as well as the rate fixed in a similar way in Srinagar by the Assistant Commission Nazool there, in implementation of Roshni Act.
The rates fixed by the Rate Determination Committee under the Chairmanship of Divisional Commissioner Jammu for the Jammu region and Divisional Commissioner Kashmir for the Kashmir region have been rejected by the occupants, individually as well as jointly through FONL Jammu and Coordination Committee Srinagar. Since these rates fixed earlier are exorbitant and beyond the capacity of most of the occupants to pay and have been fixed arbitrarily, without actual assessment and evaluation of the lands under the possession of its occupants for last the 40 to 60 years, the aggrieved occupants under the banner of FONL Jammu and Coordination Committee Srinagar have been agitation against this and demanding revision of the same, brining these at par with the rates charged in regularizing the 13 colonies in 2005, by the JDA and J&K Housing Board, with regard to the lands encroached upon by many individuals, where they have raised residential and commercial buildings unauthorized appreciating the concern expressed by the deputationists, Mangat Ram agreed that the rate fixed with exorbitant and informed them that the revision of the same is under consideration by the government and decision in this regard will be taken soon, the revised rates will be on rational bases and within the reach of the occupants, the minister assured the deputaionists.
The forum asked the minister that concerned MLAs as well as the affected parties should be taken into confidence, while revising the rates.
Others who formed part of deputation included Ajay Bakshi, Iqbal, Khullar, Somnath Sharma and Rajinder Singh.
