| HM Comdr killed; Police diffuse live grenade | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Nov 26 A Company Commander of Hizbul Mujahideen was gunned down in a joint operation by army and police in Pulwama district, while police recovered a live hand grenade from Ganderbal district. Giving details, an official spokesman said that a Company Commander of HM was gunned down at Karmullah Tral. According to SP Awantipora, Police received specific information regarding the presence of militants in the forest area of Gujjar Patti Kramulla Tral. A joint operation was launched by Police and 31 RR, which led to a fierce gun battle, he said. He said that in the ensuing gun battle, which lasted for about two hours, one militant was killed. The slain militant has been identified as Tariq Ahanger alias Anees of Ratnipora Pulwama, who was operating as Company Commander of HM outfit. He said that Tariq was the most wanted militant who had gone across to Pakistan for arms training in 1998 and had returned back in December 2006. He further stated that after the killing of HM Company Commander Illiyas at Pampore in July this year Tariq had taken over and his killing has come as a major blow to the militant outfit in the area. Meanwhile, Police Ganderbal recovered a live grenade from the debris of the residential house of Ghulam Nabi Bhat of Saloora. To avoid any civilian causality, the grenade was later safely destroyed on the spot. |
