| Government to preserve autonomy of civic bodies: Aijaz | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Nov 26 Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development Aijaz Ahmad Khan today inaugurated elevator at Jammu Municipal Corporation. Completed at a cost of Rs 17.95 lakh, the elevator would facilitate up and down movement in the multi-storeyed building. Later, addressing corporators, Khan called for strengthening the highest democratic civic institution through open debates and discussions. He said basic concept of corporations was to draw up micro plans of cities for their speedy development. The Minister said that the government is keen to preserve autonomy of all civic institutions with thrust on making them financially viable. He said that it would be his endeavour to ensure smooth flow of funds from various departments so that works taken up by the corporations are not impeded due to want of funds. Threadbare discussions were held during the meeting with regard to various issues pertaining to problems faced by the corporators which included providing of staff to JMC, release of honorarium arrears from last two years, recruitment policy and other welfare people resolutions. The Minister assured them that adequate staff would be provided to the corporation shortly. Regarding sanitation he said that the matter would be looked into. About providing of security to corporators, he said that the matter would be taken up with the concerned. Mayor Jammu Municipal Corporation Narinder Singh also addressed the gathering and highlighted the policies and programs of the corporation. Deputy Mayor Dharamveer Singh Jamwal presented vote of thanks and earlier Commissioner JMC Vinod Sharma presented welcome address. On the occasion, the Minister distributed cash award of Rs 5,000 each to the wards of class-IV employees of the JMC who have secured distinctions in 10th and 12th standard. |
