‘Green park on Tawi ghats on anvil’
Dilawar inspects flood protection works

The Minister for PHE and Tourism Mohammad Dilawar Mir has ordered for taking up immediately the beautification-cum-flood protection works on the right side of river Rawi. The project envisaging to retrieve about 54 kanals of waste land for developing Green Park and path ways for morning strollers, will be executed from the Gujar Nagar bridge up to old Tawi Bridge in the first instance at a cost of Rs. 5.85 crores, covering about 900 meters. The project would also expand the area around cremation ground, Jogi Gate for convenience of the public.
Instructions to this effect were given by the Minister during his inspection of the Jogi Gate and Gujar Nagar areas of Jammu city today. The Minister was accompanied by MLA Yogesh Sawhney, Chief Engineer PHE, Jammu, V K Goswami, Chief Engineer, I&FC, V K Abrol, Superintending Engineer, Hydraulic, Jammu, S K Kanotra and the concerned engineers.
While inspecting flood protection works in lower Gujar Nagar, the Minister ordered for raising flood protection bund near Jamia-Faizal-Aloom Madrassa and urged for checking flow of seepage and sewerage water from the vicinity into the River Tawi. This would also provide protection to the graveyard at Gujar Nagar. The Minister asked the engineers to formulate a comprehensive project to check flow of sewerage waste into the river Tawi. He urged for scientific disposal of solid waste in and around River Tawi directing that discharge of all the 8 nallahs coming down below the Gujar Nagar and Old Secretariat areas need to be channalized towards upcoming Sewerage and Drainage Treatment Plant near Bhagwati Nagar.
The Minister also inspected some houses at Gujar Nagar which have been damaged due to oozing of water from damaged and leaked drains in the vicinity. He asked the engineers accompanying him to prepare a list of such damaged houses with remedial measures to be discussed with the concerned authorities.
