Fresher’s day at ASCOMS, Jammu

Minister for Health and Medical Education Pt. Mangat Ram Sharma has asked the under training doctors to prepare themselves for serving in far-off and backward areas to provide better medicare facilities to the patients and put their head and heart while treating the ailing after completing their degrees.
Pt. Mangat Ram Sharma was addressing at a function organized to welcome the new entrants of medical course at Achrya Shri Chander College of Medical Science (ASCOMS) at Sidhra Jammu today. He said that those opting for medical profession should have qualities of patience, dedication, devotion and humble treatment as the profession has a dealing with varied temperaments. He asked the fresh trainees to work hard and assimilate the required qualities and ethics from their teachers and practicing doctors and not to let the earnings of their parents not to go based which they get after hard toiling.
Pt. Ji said that with the mass expansion in health and medical education department ample jobs for outgoing medical degree holders would be available besides improving and expanding the medicare facilities. He, however, asked them to be ready in serving the downtrodden in rural and remote areas, which mostly remain devoid of medical facilities for want of doctors. He said that the young blood should exert for par excellence and shoulder the responsibilities in a humble and submissive way. He said that treating the ailing persons is a worship that invites good will and wishes from the people.
Referring to ASCOMS, the Minister said that the institute drives its name from a great Sikh Saint and grand son of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. He said that Guru Nanak Dev Ji as well as Achrya Shri Chander Ji served the mankind in true spirit irrespective of caste, creed, colour, region or religion adding that the Sikh community had a remarkable role in the independence of the country and protecting its sovereignty.
The Minister appreciating the management and the staff of the college asked them to excel for better achievements and modernizing the institution as per the present day requirements. He said that government would provide all possible assistance for the purpose.
Principal of the college gave a resume of the courses as well as the facilities available in the institution. He said that so far 700 degree holders of seven batches have passed out of the college and the colleges conducting post-graduate courses for MS and MD in five specialties and first batch of post-graduate PG Students passed out this year.
On the occasion, a varied colourful cultural programme was presented by the students that mesmerized the audience. The Minister presented awards to Mr. and Mrs fresher 2007 and other performers.
Prof. Rajinder Singh, Principal Government Medical College, Jammu, Dr. Jasbir Singh, Dr. Health Services Jammu, Staff, students of the college besides a large number of parents and prominent citizens graced the occasion.
