| Azad pays rich tributes to G L Dogra | | >>Calls him inspiration for today's politicians | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Nov 27 Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today paid rich tributes to former Minister and senior Congress leader, late Girdhari Lal Dogra on his 20th death anniversary. The Chief Minister also visited the rotary near Gulshan Grounds here and paid floral tributes at the statue of the late leader. A large number of people were present to pay homage to the veteran leader who was known for his simplicity and dedicated service to the people. The Chief Minister recalled the contribution of Dograji towards the development of the State. He especially highlighted his humility and single-minded service towards the poor and deprived sections of the population, saying one needs to learn from the example set by him to serve the people. He said Dograji was a grassroots leader connected with the ground and had a feel of the people's problems and worked for their solution throughout his life. He said as senior minister also, he would not mind personally going to lower rung officials for having problems of the people resolved. He said the people of the State in general and Jammu in particular are proud that such a great leader was born here. Azad said politicians like Dograji were very few in number today and asked political workers and leaders to take inspiration from him. He said people who want to serve the State irrespective of their political and ideological moorings should take a leaf from the life of Girdhari Lal Dogra. Only by selfless service to the people, he said, would Jammu & Kashmir march ahead on the path of development. The Chief Minister said that a large sized statue of the later leader, befitting his political and physical stature, would be installed at the present site. He said last year on this day, he had announced that legislators would donate a month's salary to the Girdhari Lal Dogra Memorial Trust. He said some cheques had been received while others would be collected soon and handed over to the Trust. Minister for Health and Medical Education, Mangat Ram Sharma, Minister for R&B, Gulchain Singh Charak, legislators, corporators, prominent citizens, friends and admirers of the late leader were also present and paid homage to him. |
